The Annual Multidisciplinary Research Conference at SUH takes place on Friday November 30th 2018.
We are delighted to announce our two Keynote Speakers for our Conference this year
Dr. Ruth O’Regan is the Division Chief of Hematology/Oncology and Palliative Care in the Department of Medicine and Associate Director for Clinical Research at the Carbone Cancer Center at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. She has recently been named Chief Scientific officer (CSO) of the Big Ten Cancer Research Consortium (Big Ten CRC) where she will guide the research and scientific mission of the consortium. Dr. O’Regan earned her Medical Degree from University College, Dublin, Ireland and completed her Internal Medicine residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin and her Hematology/Oncology fellowship at Northwestern University. Her research program focuses on identifying mechanisms of resistance to breast-cancer therapies and on the development of new therapies with a specific focus on triple negative breast cancer. Dr. O’Regan’s talk is entitled “The elusive search for targets in triple negative breast cancer”
Prof Derek O’Keeffe holds dual first class honours degrees in Engineering and Medicine as well as a Masters and PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Limerick and NUIG. He was a Fulbright Scholar at Harvard and is a graduate of the Endocrinology Clinical Fellowship at the Mayo Clinic, USA. As well as multiple academic publications, he holds two biomedical patents and several international research prizes. He was awarded The Outstanding Young Person of the World by JCI. He is a Black Belt Taekwondo Instructor, Qualified Pilot & Advanced Scuba Diver. He works as a Consultant Endocrinologist at UHG and is the Professor of Medical Device Technology at NUIG. His topic at our conference will be “Digital Diabetes“.
